Regardless of how many same-sex children you have there is always something that will come along and surprise you.
Take for example last week when I learnt the term ‘straddle injury’.
We are relatively new to the world of gymnastics with Miss 8 having just gone into her second year. So last week she had been to her class as usual and when I picked her up she told me how she had fallen off the balance beam and her leg was sore. When she got home I let her put her pj’s on and gave her an icepack for her leg and all was good, or so it seemed. It wasn’t until the next day when she had her bath that I saw the bruise to beat all other bruises in a place where you sure as hell do not want a bruise of any description. Cue me being all calm on the outside and totally freaking out on the inside, googling does a massive bruise on your wooha require urgent medical attention!!
And during that process, I learnt all about straddle injuries which essentially are, as the name suggests, injuries sustained when you fall on something in a straddle position…like a frickin balance beam! From what I read you can treat your injury at home with rest and cold packs but if you have further concerns or the pain is not lessening then a trip to the doctor may be in order.
Now if that had of been me that would have been my gymnastics career over right there and then. But after a few days of rest and recuperation, Miss 8 was back on the horse, well the balance beam in this case, slightly tentative but back on nonetheless.
Just goes to show that there is always something new to learn in this parenting gig!

So do tell, where is the worst place that you’ve ever had a bruise!!
Holy cow! I’m with you, I would have been done! But what a little hero, getting back in to it! Our kids certainly can teach us a thing or two about persistence and determination, that’s for sure!

That is so true, persistence and determination are good qualities for them to have!
Poor kid, she must have been in so much pain. Wonderful how kids are so resilient. I would have given up there and then. I hope she is feeling much better xx
She did experience some discomfort to say the least!! And thank you, she is feeling much better now!
Good on your daughter for getting back in the game. I’d be more than a little gun shy on that one! Then again, I have zero balance for high-tech things like that.
I hope the bruise heals quickly.
Yes, we were proud of her for getting back into it! The healing process is going well thank you 🙂
My girl is into her third year of gymnastics and luckily we’ve never had to deal with saddle injury as yet! Something else to look forward to in our future…
I hope you never have to deal with that one lol!!
